EXPERIENCE

Josh Dannhauser is a successful distance swimmer, holding two South African national champion titles. Josh was inspired by his father, who was his coach, to lead Fitter & Faster camps. He says, “The way my father worked with young athletes, preparing them to be the athletes they are today, inspired me to teach. It’s nice to give back to the swim community, as the sport has given me so much.”

Josh enjoys working with young athletes, saying “it’s a joy to see kids get what we’re implementing in these camps, and it’s always a fun experience when they get to meet world class athletes.” Along with teaching camp participants stroke technique, Josh emphasizes race strategy. “I always talk to the kids about race strategy. In distance swimming, it’s a chess game, deciding when to make your move, when to go all out, and when to hold back. Some of those same strategies can be used in any race.”

Josh credits swimming for making him the man he is today. He says, “Swimming has humbled me when I’ve been on top, and lifted my spirits in times of sorrow. I cherish the skills I’ve gained from swimming that I can take into everyday life. For example, I was a bit of a shy kid and swimming eradicated that. Now I love talking to people, I love being in a big group, I love the camaraderie of being on a team.”
